A former Beaux-Arts student born in the late 1970s, Paris-based Jean Nipon spent much of his career as a prominent musician and DJ before spontaneously reconnecting with his visual roots. This musical background infuses his artistic practice with a unique rhythm and a « sampling » sensibility that sets him apart in the contemporary scene.
From Veneration to Creation
Nipon’s work was born from a desire for the unattainable. Unable to acquire the masterpieces by Ingres, Jean Dupas, or Alexander Roslin that he so admired, he began to recreate them using only colored pencils. What started as a humble tribute to the Old Masters evolved into a sophisticated personal language. Today, he weaves his own diverse fascinations—from horror cinema to smooth jazz, and from ancient ruins to children’s literature—into compositions of surgical precision.
A Rational Approach to the Image
Moving away from sentimental expressionism, Jean Nipon prioritizes craftsmanship and the universal language of form. He believes art should not merely reflect a subjective vision, but rather assemble recognizable elements understood by all, implemented with rational intent. By bypassing emotional input in favor of pure technical execution, his work achieves a visual authority and clarity that resonates deeply with collectors seeking a modern evolution of figurative art.
